Sandhamn is one of the archipelago’s most beloved swimming destinations, where the landscape shifts between soft sandy beaches, smooth sun-warmed rocks, and bright, sheltered coves with calm waters. Here, you’ll find spots suited for every moment of the day, whether you’re drawn to a quiet morning dip or a full day by the sea.
The island’s most iconic beach is Trouville, divided into Greater and Lesser Trouville. Greater Trouville is wide and open, with an almost Mediterranean feel and plenty of space to stretch out, while Lesser Trouville sits more sheltered and often feels calmer and more intimate. Both are reached by a scenic walk through pine forest paths from the village.
Closer to the harbor lies Fläskberget, a small west-facing beach that’s perfect for a refreshing swim in the evening sun. Just a few minutes from the hotel, Skärkarlshamn offers a mix of rocky shores and sand, with views of passing boats along the fairway.
For guests staying at the hotel, relaxed swimming options are always close at hand. Our spa features a heated pool and jacuzzi, and guests staying in our sea villas also enjoy access to a private shared pool right by the water, a quiet oasis to start the day or return to after exploring the island’s many beaches.
Wherever you choose to dip your toes, you’re met by the rhythm of the sea, the scent of pine forest, and that unmistakable sense of freedom that makes Sandhamn a true swimming paradise year round.

Just east of Sandhamn, about four and a half nautical miles across open sea, lies Grönskär, the legendary small island often called the Queen of the Baltic Sea. Here, you’re met by rugged granite cliffs, salt-laced sea air, and a sense of stillness that’s hard to find elsewhere. The island carries the unmistakable character of the outer archipelago, with smoothly weathered rock, low-growing vegetation clinging to the wind, and a light that can shift from clear to dramatic in just minutes. It’s one of the archipelago’s most striking landscapes, ideal for a day trip filled with nature, sea, and quiet.
At the heart of the island rises the Grönskär Lighthouse, built in 1770, a powerful landmark that has guided sailors through the outer Baltic waters for more than two centuries. We hold the key to the lighthouse, allowing our guests to climb all the way to the top and take in a view that truly widens your perspective: mile after mile of open water, cliffs, and sky. Seabirds often glide above the waves, and with a bit of luck, a seal may surface among the rocks below.
Grönskär also bears traces of a living fishing heritage that has shaped the island for generations. In one of its natural harbors, a small fisherman’s hut remains as a quiet reminder of the time when fishermen sought shelter here during long days at sea and smoked their catch directly on the rocks.
Next to the lighthouse stands the former lighthouse keeper’s residence, where we offer accommodations for up to ten guests. There is no running water and limited mobile coverage, but that’s precisely what makes the stay so special. It’s an opportunity to slow down, to listen, and to be fully present in nature. In the evenings, when the wind settles and the horizon turns shades of pink, it feels as though the entire island holds its breath.
During the summer season, we offer boat trips from Sandhamn to Grönskär. The journey is short, yet it feels like stepping into another world. Once ashore, you’ll find cliffs perfect for swimming, paths to wander, and places that invite you to stay a little longer than planned.
Grönskär is raw, beautiful, and unforgettable – one of the archipelago’s true treasures.

Just outside Sandhamn, only two nautical miles across shimmering waters, lies Stora Alskär, one of the archipelago’s most enchanting day trips. Here, you’re greeted by shallow sandy beaches, smooth sun-warmed rocks, and open sea that invites both playful moments, quiet stillness, and long, lingering swims.
During the summer months, we offer comfortable boat transfers from Sandhamn to Stora Alskär. The journey is short and scenic, making it easy to explore the island even on a day trip. Pack your swimwear, a blanket, and something delicious for a seaside break, step aboard, and let the archipelago unfold around you.
Once ashore, you’ll find soft sand, gently sloping waters, and rocks perfect for picnics, sun-soaked hours, and a swim or two. Out here, the pace is slow, the air is crisp, and the views stretch endlessly toward the horizon.
Stora Alskär is a place for those who want to experience one of the archipelago’s most beautiful destinations.
