Sandhamn is one of the Stockholm archipelago's most iconic locations. Here, you'll find a wide range of nature experiences, leisure activities, and archipelago life.

The island, with its distinctive nature featuring sand dunes, cliffs, and beautiful pine forests, is ideal for walks, nature experiences, and excursions. Situated at the outermost reaches of the archipelago with magnificent views of the open sea and horizon, the island is a beautiful and unique place.
Sandhamn is a genuine archipelago idyll with old pilot cottages, fishing huts, and summer houses. Here, you’ll also find a charming museum and other exciting and interesting sights.
The most famous beach is called Trouville, located on the southeastern part of the island. Here, you’ll find both a lovely sandy beach and warm rocks for sunbathing. To reach the beach from the harbor, take a 15-minute walk through the forest, across the island.
Other nice beaches include Fläskberget, a smaller beach located adjacent to the western part of the village, and Skärkarlshamn, which is about a 5-minute walk eastwards, past the Sailors Hotel. You can also swim from the cliffs on the nearby island of Lökholmen. Lökholmen is also a charming island to stroll on, and here you’ll find a café in the summer and a passenger boat runs every hour between Sandhamn and Lökholmen.

Go for a run or work out at the island’s great free outdoor gym. You can also take the opportunity to play a game of tennis or padel.
On the island, you can rent a sea kayak and head out among the islets and skerries – or rent a bike to more easily reach beautiful beaches and picnic spots.
In the summer, you’ll also find submarine safaris, windsurfing school, yoga classes, and much more. See all activities here: Activities

Length: 8.1 km

SAT Sandhamn is bewilderingly beautiful. Most people know the village of Sandhamn, but few are familiar with the rest of Sandön. The trail starts at the steamboat pier and turns left, following a clockwise loop around the island.
The beginning and end of the route take you through the lively village with its narrow lanes, sailing life, and the scent of the sea. The rest of the trail winds through forest paths with the ocean on your left almost the entire time. You’ll pass beaches and untouched coves, walking through magnificent pine forests where every step brings a new discovery.
Along the trail, you’ll be guided by the distinctive SAT markings – yellow and blue bands wrapped around tree trunks, leading you safely through forest, sand, and shoreline. The section takes just under three hours at a relaxed pace.
