Sport

Sandhamn is your natural arena for training, play, and adventure all year round.

Sandhamn for the Active

For those who love to move, challenge the body, and fill their lungs with sea air, Sandhamn is your natural arena. Here, sport, nature, and freedom meet in a way only an island in the archipelago can offer. Among the pine trees, you’ll find two padel courts and two tennis courts – perfect for friendly matches or focused training sessions. And if strength is your thing, we have both an outdoor and an indoor gym.

Sandhamn has a long-standing tennis tradition, and every summer the classic Sandhamn Open, hosted by the Sandhamn Tennis Club (STK), attracts locals, summer guests, and players from all over Sweden. Matches are played from early morning until late evening, with spectators gathering along the courts in an atmosphere that blends competition with summer leisure. For those looking to improve their game, there are opportunities for lessons, kids’ training, and spontaneous matches – it’s easy to find someone to play with here.

Seaside Life

The sea is an essential part of Sandhamn – both a playground and a natural training arena. Here, you can rent a kayakand glide among islets and skerries, or take a sunset SUP session when the water is perfectly still.

During the summer months, there’s also a wind- and kitesurfing school, where both beginners and experienced surfers can experience the freedom of riding the wind in the heart of the archipelago.

Adventures on Foot

Sandhamn is made for movement in nature. Here, scenic trails and gravel paths wind through pine forests, sand dunes, and along the sea – perfect for running, cycling, or long walks where every step carries the scent of salt and pine. Many start their day with a run by the water and end with a swim at the beach – a simple ritual that captures the feeling of freedom out here.

For those seeking a challenge, ÖTILLÖ Swimrun begins here – the legendary race where participants run and swim between the islands of the outer archipelago, one of the world’s most iconic endurance events.

If you prefer a slower pace, the Stockholm Archipelago Trail winds its way through Sandhamn – part of the 270-kilometre trail that connects the entire archipelago. Here you can walk through untouched nature, feel the wind on your skin, and let your steps follow the rhythm of the waves.

Sailing is the heart of Sandhamn

Here, the wind, waves, and sails have shaped life for generations – from the early pilots guiding ships through the archipelago to today’s competitive sailors who gather every summer. Sandhamn is home to the Royal Swedish Yacht Club (KSSS) – Sweden’s largest and one of the world’s oldest yacht clubs – whose presence defines the island and makes it a natural meeting place for sailors from around the world.

During summer, some of Sweden’s most iconic sailing events take place here – Gotland Runt, Sandhamn Open, Sandhamn Regatta, and international competitions such as the J/70 European Championship. When the races start just outside the harbor, the whole island comes alive; it’s a time when the sea, the wind, and the sense of community take center stage.

For those who prefer a more tranquil experience, we offer classic sailing excursions during the summer aboard a beautiful wooden yacht departing from Sandhamn. Together with an experienced KSSS crew, you’ll sail among the islands and let the day unfold with the wind – and your wishes. Anchor in a quiet bay for a swim and picnic, or follow the sails wherever they lead, among islets, skerries, and the open sea.
