As August turns to September, the larder is at its fullest. Root vegetables just lifted from the ground, cabbage, mushrooms from the forest, the last tomatoes of the year, apples, plums and freshly pressed juice. Our harvest festival is a tribute to exactly that moment, just before the dark takes over.
The menu is built entirely on what has been grown and gathered nearby, and it is written late — only once we know what has actually come in. Expect roasted roots, game, mushrooms in butter, sourdough from our own oven and something sweet involving apples.
We lay long communal tables and celebrate together, in the spirit harvest feasts have always had. The exact date is set once the season arrives.
