Sailing has long been an integral part of life in Sandhamn. The island has for generations been a natural meeting place for sailors, with the harbour serving as a hub for both everyday sailing and competitive racing. Its proximity to open sea and archipelago waters makes Sandhamn a natural starting point for sailing at all levels.

A key part of this tradition is the Royal Swedish Yacht Club (KSSS), which has been closely connected to Sandhamn since the nineteenth century. Regattas, training programmes and sailing events are held here throughout the season, attracting sailors from Sweden and beyond. During the summer months, sailing defines the rhythm of the harbour and contributes to the distinctive atmosphere Sandhamn is known for.
